About us

Incorporated on November 17, 1966, the Laredo Economic ​Development Corporation strives to be an organization defined by its ​visionary leadership, recognized for its integrity and contributions ​towards the economic development and vitality of Los Dos Laredos ​and the Webb County region.


The Laredo Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) was first ​certified as the 17th Accredited Economic Development Organization ​(AEDO) in the nation by the International Economic Development ​Council (IEDC) in 2000. The LEDC has maintained its international ​standing with its most recent re-certifications in 2014, 2018, and ​2022, and it is 1 of only 74 in the nation as an accredited economic ​development organization out of more than 9800 in the country.


In addition, the LEDC and MileOne were nationally recognized in ​2023 with 2 Silver Awards at IEDC’s Excellence in Economic ​Development Award ceremony in Dallas, Texas for its annual ​“Innovation in Economic Development Week” and “Entrepreneurship” ​(MileOne) programs, respectively. It is to say that these awards are ​not easy to obtain, the LEDC and MileOne staff have worked diligently ​to stand out at the national level and continue its mission to promote ​and foster the economic and industrial development of the Laredo ​region.


LEDC marks the week of May 6 to May 10, 2024, as the next Economic ​Development Week. During this week, communities across North ​America will celebrate and recognize the contributions made by ​professional economic developers to create more economically vibrant ​and livable communities.

On May 2nd, Workforce Solutions for South ​Texas hosted a press conference to announce ​the partnership with the Laredo Economic ​Development Corporation and MileOne to host ​a Job Fair and Shop Local Initiative as one of ​the events to celebrate Economic ​Development Week.


Among the attendees were City Mayor ​Victor Treviño and Webb County ​Commissioner Pct. 2 Rosaura “Wawi” ​Tijerina media representatives and staff ​members from Workforce Solutions, LEDC, ​and MileOne .

Proclamation Day

To kick off the Economic Development Week celebration during a separate ceremony, Dr. Victor D. Treviño, ​Mayor of the City of Laredo and Tano Tijerina, Webb County Judge, presented a Proclamation recognizing May ​6-10, 2024 as “National Economic Development Week in Laredo Texas” in partnership with the Laredo ​Economic Development Corporation, MileOne International Business Assistance Center, the City of Laredo ​Economic Development Department, Laredo Chamber of Commerce, and Webb County Economic Development ​Office.


The LEDC and MileOne - International Business Assistance Center (IBAC) has been bridging connections ​between community stakeholders such as business leaders, elected officials, industry executives, and ​educational institutions, as well as entrepreneurship to collaborate in promoting job creation, community ​investment, infrastructure advancements, and an optimistic future.

State of Transportation & ​Infrastructure

On Tuesday, May 7th, LEDC hosted the ​"State of Transportation and ​Infrastructure" workshop at Laredo ​College's main campus.


During the event, Epigmenio "Epi" ​Gonzalez, P.E., Texas Laredo District ​Engineer, and Roberto Rodriguez, III, ​Supervising Engineer from the Texas ​Department of Transportation, delivered ​dynamic presentations about TxDOT ​Infrastructure Projects while Jed A. ​Brown, Chairman Webb County – City of ​Laredo Regional Mobility Authority ​provided an Update on Projects ​throughout the community.

MileOne Small Business ​Forum

On Wednesday, May 8th, LEDC’s MileOne IBAC ​program hosted the Small Business Forum ​“Unlocking Your Potential: 4 Resources Every ​Business Owner Must Know” paneled by Cindy ​Solano, at US Small Business Administration, ​Hector A. Ramirez, Minority Business ​Development Agency, Tina Rodriguez, TAMIU ​Small Business Development Center and Oscar ​Magaña from U.S. Commercial Service, ​followed by a special award presented to Javier ​A. Gonzalez Jr., recognized as the "Healthcare ​Champion" for his outstanding work in ​providing health insurance to the underserved ​and elderly in the Laredo community.

On Wednesday, May 8th, in a ​more relaxing atmosphere ​with delicious food, ​refreshing drinks, and great ​company, the LEDC hosted ​the "Spring Membership ​Mixer" at the Laredo Country ​Club “Plantation Room”, with ​City Manager Joseph Neeb ​as a Guest Speaker.

To close EDW, the LEDC hosted a “Job ​Fair and Shop Local Initiative ” This ​year, we partnered with Workforce ​Solutions for South Texas (WSST) to ​promote and recognize downtown by ​offering free exhibit spaces to entities ​to promote their product, services, or ​job opportunities.

WSST had an on-site resource station ​assisting applicants with their resumes ​and closed the event with more than ​230 attendees!

Big thank you to the Barber Education ​Academy and the Food Bank, who ​provided free haircuts and free food ​respectively!
